You and my wife both. She is not at all maternal, although she has spent her working life treating sick animals and sometimes crying when they die. She would much prefer to be a housewife, but never a mother, and not to have to work except as a part-timer. She likes to bake and make preserves of all sorts and cook things and make butter and dye clothes. Her hobby is bookbinding which she cannot do as often as she would like. What she isn't, in any sense other than purely economic, is what she does for our living.
She's an exceptional woman and I love her dearly. One of her greatest qualities has been the ability to put up with a curmudgeonly old dinosaur for nearly twenty nine years, however, she is not without her share of irritating, and sometimes infuriating, feminine 'weaknesses' (I'm not referring to physical abilities - why do women believe that money grows on trees, as and when required, and unwanted things just disappear when put in one bin or another?).
I say this as a woman who didn't have children and never even liked children. So I am aware that I'm part of the problem.

Interesting! She sounds like a great woman.
