There are some very interesting stories. One I recall was told by a man who was given a white feather, by a silly little girl, on the top deck of a London bus. He thanked her for it and took it from her with the hook that replaced the hand he'd lost in the trenches. She burst into tears and returned to her seat. Another was from a man who was home on leave and wearing civvies. He took it from the female who'd given it to him and used it to clean his pipe, thanking her while doing so and asking if she had any more because they couldn't get pipe cleaners in the trenches.
