Some time ago I had a long, contentious message exchange with a prominent editor and writing coach.

The topic, if I recall correctly, centered on the judicial system in terms of the me too movement.

Her contention was that women should always be believed, with emphasis on always.

I pointed out that that would end the presumption of innocence, a cornerstone of our judicial system.

Her response, in so many words was, too bad.

The judicial system will not survive the assault such women are making on it.

Excellent analysis, Janice.

I would add that the Western (Society Archetype) criminal justice system already marries compassion with moral judgment. The criminal trial is intentionally divided into two phases. The first, the trial, is about moral judgment and focuses on determining guilt according to evidence - did the accused actually commit the crime? The second phase is the sentencing, and it focuses on compassionate concerns - intention, mitigating circumstances, remorse, context, possibility of rehabilitation, etc. The idea that "masculine ethics" excluded compassion was wrong from the start.
