I am from Vancouver. I skated at the Stardust in Richmond from '78-82 or thereabouts. Lots of East Van boys there.

I was married and had kids by then.

Which neighbourhood in Vancouver were you from?

Actually, I grew up in South Burnaby, just off Nelson Avenue near Marine Drive. I went to MacPherson Park Junior High and Burnaby South Senior Secondary.

How about you?

David Thompson HS. I was born in Van. Lived in California from 1-7 years old. Then moved all around in Vancouver. In Burnaby around Central Park. At age 10 we moved to Fraserview. That was my 18th move. California was paradise in those days. My Dad was very disabled from the war. He saw the writing on the wall and said the US was never going to stop going to war. He knew my brother and I would end up in the army, and likely wrecked or killed. So we moved back to Canada. I am a Vancouverite. But when I get to California I feel at home. I like being warm. I live in Victoria now.

Thanks for this! That's a lot of moves, for sure. Victoria gets less rain. This past winter in Van nearly did me in emotionally. We live in Champlain Heights now. We moved back here in 2019 to be close to my mom; she died last year.

I am sorry about your Mom. I have gone through it. It takes time to work through it all. I am 73. My Mom died 32 years ago at 64. She seemed old at the time. Which sounds silly to me now. I am still working full time!
